Call­ing all New Zealand film­mak­ers: China is waiting

New Zealand film­mak­ers have an oppor­tu­nity to work on projects with one of the fastest grow­ing screen indus­tries in the world.

Film Auck­land man­ager Michael Brook says the China Film Co-production Cor­po­ra­tion has issued an invi­ta­tion for all NZ film­mak­ers to pitch their film projects by 9 March.

“Selected projects will be announced on March 23, and the suc­cess­ful film­mak­ers will attend the pitch-and-catch process at a Forum dur­ing the Bei­jing Inter­na­tional Film Fes­ti­val (BJIFF) in April.

“Late last year Film Auck­land hosted the Asia Pacific Pro­duc­ers Net­work Sym­po­sium which was another major step in our work in devel­op­ing rela­tion­ships in growth markets.

“China is look­ing to make more prod­ucts for West­ern mar­kets and is actively sourc­ing new pro­duc­tion part­ners. This pro­vides our film mak­ers access to one of the world’s fastest grow­ing box offices.

“There is a lot of enthu­si­asm for co-producing films, and this is ben­e­fi­cial to both coun­tries,” says Mr Brook.

Own­ers of the selected projects will be invited to par­tic­i­pate in indi­vid­ual meet­ings of co-production projects, together with Bei­jing Inter­na­tional Film Fes­ti­val Film Mar­ket at China’s National Con­ven­tion Centre.
